7.3.7.1 Short-to-GND and Overload Detection

When a channel is on, a short to GND or overload condition causes overcurrent. If the overcurrent triggers either the internal or external current-limit threshold, the fault condition is reported out. The microcontroller can handle the overcurrent by turning off the switch. The device clamps the current to ICL until thermal shutdown. TPS4HC120A automatically recovers when the fault condition is removed.

In a hot short condition, when the short-circuit is applied when the EN is HIGH, the device shuts down immediately and auto-retries the same as enable into permanent short condition, as shown in Figure 7-9.
