Comparator Output

The TL331L-Q1 and LM2903L-Q1 features an open-collector (also commonly called open-drain) sinking-only output stage enabling the output logic levels to be pulled up to any voltage up to 36V, independent of the comparator supply voltage (VS). The open-collector output also allows logical OR'ing of multiple open-collector outputs and logic level translation.

Unused open-collector outputs can be left floating, or can be tied to the V- pin if floating pins are not allowed.

The open-collector output protection consists of a ESD clamp between the output and V- to allow the output to be pulled to any voltage up to a maximum of 36V, even if the pull-up voltage exceeds V+.
