Auto Cycle Mode

The default state of TMUXS130xA is auto cycle (AC) mode. While in auto cycle mode, the device automatically toggles from SWn to SWn+1with TMUXS1306A and then SWnA to SWnA+1 of channel 1 and SWnB to SWnB+1 for TMUXS1307A on the rising edge of the signal provided to the AC pin. While in auto cycle mode, the only register that can be written to is the MODCFG register; however, all registers can be read from. To leave AC mode, the user must change the first bit in register 0x0C to 0. Burst mode can also be enabled while exiting AC mode, and during the burst write AC mode can be re-enabled, and burst mode disabled.

A full cycle of auto cycle mode is considered a "Pattern". A pattern can consist of a "1" that indicates a switch is active, or a "0" which indicates a switch is inactive. For example, 0xFFFF indicates every switch is active and transitioned to in the pattern, but 0x0005 means only switches 0 and 2 are active and are cycled through with only two active edges on the AC pin.

There are eight pattern registers (0x04xx through 0x0Bxx). Each pattern register can be overwritten with custom patterns. During a device power down all registers are reset to the default states.

The ACSEL register allows the user to select multiple patterns to cycle through. For example, if a user selects patterns 0 and 1 (ACSEL = 0x0003, Pattern0 = 0xFFFF and Pattern1 = 0xAAAA) then the switches run through 0xFFFF followed by 0xAAAA, and then back to 0xFFFF.

There are multiple options in the MODCFG register that helps with the configurability of AC mode. To modify this register, the AC mode must be disabled first.

AC_1CH_ALWAYS_ON turns off all switches at the end of every pattern, requiring an additional AC to begin the next pattern. To get through a full pattern with AC_1CH_ALWAYS_ON, 16 rising edges are required, or 17 with AC_1CH_ALWAYS_ON disabled.

AC_EDGE_CONFIG sets what edge the switches transition on.

  1. 0b00: sets the AC to transition on rising edge only
  2. 0b01: sets AC to transition on falling edge only
  3. 0b10: sets AC to transition on both rising edge AND falling edge
  4. 0b11: sets AC to transition on rising edge only (repeat of 0b00)
