7.3.8.4 Unpowered Devices

The device is designed to be high-impedance to the CAN bus if the device is unpowered. The CANH and CANL pins have low leakage currents when the device is unpowered, so no load is present on the bus. This is critical if some nodes of the network are unpowered while the rest of the of network remains in operation.

The logic terminals also have low leakage currents when the device is unpowered, so there is not a load down other circuits which can remain powered.
