These features allow sophisticated control algorithms to be implemented in software and eliminate the need for expensive external components, such as Hall-effect sensors. TI's expanding line of 'C24x DSPs include both traditional ROM devices and Flash memory based products, which offer in-system reprogrammability, making system software upgrades quick and easy. In addition to the original 'C240 (ROM) and 'F240 (Flash) devices, TI's second generation added the 'F241, 'C242 and 'F243 to address systems with reduced memory and cost requirements. These devices offer a flexible set of peripherals at a lower cost. Six new DSPs target the full spectrum of digital motor control applications, ranging from high-performance, multi-motor industrial systems to cost-sensitive home appliances. The LC/LF240x next-generation DSPs deliver twice as much performance per dollar as current motor controllers in the market and include the industry's first DSP controller priced as low as $2.95 each in 10K units ('LC2402). |
