Orderable Part Number (OPN)

An alphanumeric number which is usually an extension of the generic part number. The orderable part number is sufficient to uniquely identify an orderable part or sample. Knowledge of certain attributes (packaging, speed, temp range) is usually sufficient to navigate from generic part number to orderable part number.

Generic Part Number (GPN)

TI assigned alphanumeric identifier which identifies a particular instance of functionality. The generic part number typically encodes some of the following information:

  • Product family
  • Unique functionality
  • Device revision level
  • Military temperature range
  • Automotive qualification

The generic part number is normally what is listed on the datasheet. Many TI orderable part numbers map into a single generic part number. Many product support items map into a single generic part number.

NOTE: Generic part number does not include packaging information.

Status

The current status of a device, tool, or software:

  • PREVIEW: Device, tool, or software has been announced but is not in production. Samples may or may not be available.
  • ACTIVE: Device, tool, or software recommended for new designs.
  • NRND: Not recommended for new designs. Device, tool, or software is in production to support existing customers, but TI does not recommend using this part in a new design. TI encourages designers to consider alternative products for new designs (alternative suggestions are provided when possible).
  • LIFEBUY: TI has announced that the device, tool, or software will be discontinued, and a lifetime-buy period is in effect.
  • OBSOLETE: TI has discontinued the production of the device, tool, or software. More information on obsolete devices.

Military Status

The availability of the device in Military Packages:

  • NO: Available in Commercial Packaging.
  • YES: Available in Military Packaging.
  • BOTH: Available in both Commercial and Military Packaging.

DSCC Number

Defense Supply Center, Columbus.

Texas Instruments fully supports the Standard Microcircuit Drawing (SMD) program. Devices procured to SMDs are compliant to MIL-PRF-38535 and offer customers products tested to industry standard electricals.

Replacement Device

This is a device that is to be used as a replacement for the existing device that is going obsolete. This replacement is newer and has more capabilities than the existing device. (Replacement devices are only valid in instances where the original device status is NRND, Lifebuy, or Obsolete.)

Alternative Device

This is a device that is similar in nature to the existing device. Although the existing device will work for an application, TI may offer a device that has alternative performance characteristics that may be a better fit to the design application.

Complementary Device

This is a device that is to be used in conjunction with the existing device. This would be any device that would help an engineer develop a complete solution for their design (an op amp, DAC, a Power device, etc.).
