The concept of using a programmable input multiplier, also nicknamed Spur-b-Gone, allows the spurs of a PLL to be drastically improved, especially for the worst case VCO frequencies. This can be done without changing the input frequency, as this is purely implemented inside the PLL. This feature is included on some TI PLLs, such as the LMX2571, LMX2582, and LMX2592.
While designing a system with an Analog to Digital converter (ADC), it is important to ensure that the jitter of the clock does not degrade the Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) of the ADC. High performance synthesizers (phase locked loops with integrated VCO) like the LMX2582 and LMX2592, that provide very low integrated jitter at high frequencies, are being increasingly used with RF sampling ADCs to get the best system performance.
