9.3.1 Simple 24V Power Supply Path Protection

With the TPS1663x, a simple 24V power supply path protection can be realized using a minimum of three external components, as shown in the schematic diagram in Figure 9-9. The external components required are a R(ILIM) resistor to program the current limit and C(IN) and C(OUT) capacitors.

Protection features with this configuration include:

  • 39V (maximum) overvoltage clamp output
  • Inrush current control with 24V/500µs output voltage slew rate
  • Accurate current limiting with auto-retry
