When a channel is on, a short to GND or overload condition causes overcurrent. If the overcurrent triggers either the internal or external current-limit threshold, the fault condition is reported out. The microcontroller can handle the overcurrent by turning off the switch. The device will clamp the current to ICL until thermal shutdown. The device automatically recovers when the fault condition is removed.
In a hot short condition, when the short-circuit is applied when the EN is HIGH, the device will shutdown immediately and auto-retry the same as enable into permanent short condition, as shown in Figure 7-6.
