Updating the Transceiver Firmware using the ssbl_host Example

Software requirements:

  • CCS
  • Uniflash
  • Signed CC1407P firmware binary image

In this example the LP-EM-CC1314R10 is used as the host device; however, the other supported host devices can also be used.

Steps to perform firmware update using the ssbl_host example:

  1. In CCS, import the SSBL host example found at the following location:

    <plugin_install_dir>\examples\rtos\LP_EM_CC1314R10\trx_prop_rf\ssbl_host

  2. Build the project.
  3. Flash the CC1314R10 device with the built hex or out file.
  4. In the ssbl_host project, verify where the transceiver firmware is expected to be located in the CC1314R10 flash memory.

In ssbl_host_main.c, search for the variable trxFwUpdateBuffer. The address this variable points to is where the transceiver firmware binary is flashed to in the CC1314R10 device using Uniflash.

  5. Open Uniflash, select the device you are using, and select "Start" (Figure 3-9).

  6. Flash the signed CC1407P firmware binary image to address 0x10000. If the address that trxFwUpdateBuffer points to has changed, make sure to use the new address.

Select "Load Image" after you have selected the binary (Figure 3-10).

The signed binary image, trx_fw_update_final_3_00_00_25_ga.bin, can be found under:

    <install_dir>\SmartRF Studio 8\sdk_support_defs\simplelink_cc140x_phy_settings_1_03_00

  7. The CC1314 device now contains the ssbl_host and the CC1407P firmware binary image.
  8. Mount the CC140xP BoosterPack on top of the CC1314 LaunchPad.
  9. Press the XDS110 reset button.
  10. The red LED on the LaunchPad turns on once the firmware update process begins. After a couple of seconds, the red LED turns off and the green LED on the LaunchPad blinks if the update process was successful.
