Example Uses of Different Inductor Shapes

Figure 2-3 is an example of a trapezoidal inductor. For a physically small rotational measurement application, using a set of trapezoidal inductors increases the inductor area compared to circular coil; this increase in area increases the sensor inductance. This is especially useful for very small sensor sizes, which may be lower than the minimum inductance that the LDC can effectively drive. In such a case, it may be necessary to include an additional series SMT inductor if the inductance is not high enough.
