TPS61383-Q1 integrates super capacitor charging profile supporting 50 – 100mA LDO charging or 1.5A – 5A buck charging. In super capacitor charging mode, TPS61383-Q1 charges batteries with a voltage-controlled charging profile consisting of two phases: CC Charge and CV Charge.
When the backup super capacitor voltage is below target voltage (set by I2C bits BUB_CV and BUB_CELL), the device enters CC charge phase. In this phase, the device charges the super capacitor by CC current configured by BUB_CC bits.
After super capacitor is charged to the target voltage, TPS61383-Q1 enters CV charge phase. The device decrease charging current to regulate the super capacitor voltage until the current drops below a preset threshold, then the device terminates charging.
If configured as recharge disabled (by I2C bits BUB_TER), the device does not re-charge after terminated unless the EN_CHGR pin or CHGR_EN bit is toggled.
If configured as recharge enabled, the device pauses charging temporary and automatically re-charges when BUB voltage drops below VRECHG threshold.
For buck charger, the device available duty range is limited by minimum on-time of the Q1 and Q2, so 400kHz buck
operation is only available when BUB voltage is between 1V and 92.6% VOUT. If BUB voltage is below 1V or above 92.5% VOUT, TPS61383-Q1 triggers duty fault logic.
TPS61383-Q1 folds the frequency when the duty fault logic is triggered. When BUB voltage is lower than 1V, the TPS61383-Q1 fold the frequency to 100kHz. When BUB voltage is higher than 92.5% VOUT, the TPS61383-Q1 also switches to 100kHz buck mode.
