Device Functional Modes

The mode of the device is determined by the state of the SCL_SMBCLK/CFG0 and HS_UP/CFG1 pins upon deassertion of GRST# as shown in Table 6-2.

Table 6-2 Operating Mode Selection
HS_UP/CFG1 SCL_SMBCLK/CFG0 Description
0 0 Pin-strap mode
  • Individual power switching
  • Individual overcurrent sensing
  • HS_UP is asserted high when the upstream USB port is connected at high-speed.
0 1 SMBus target mode
  • Registers are loaded by external SMBus controller
  • The TUSB2514B uses 7-bit target address 0x44
  • HS_UP is asserted high when the upstream USB port is connected at high-speed.
1 0 Bus-powered pin strap mode
  • Bus-powered through VBUS
  • Individual power switching
  • Individual overcurrent sensing
  • HS_UP is asserted low when the upstream USB port is connected at high-speed.
1 1 I2C controller mode
  • All registers are configured by reading external I2C EEPROM
  • External I2C EEPROM 7-bit target address is 0x50
  • HS_UP is asserted low when the upstream USB port is connected at high-speed.
