UART Mode

In UART Mode, the channel will act like a basic UART transmitter with one-byte buffer. It’s fundamentally a UART with IO-Link base UART format. This mode can be used to send and receive IO-Link frames byte by byte. In this mode all the IO-Link PHY configurations are applicable other than TA, T2, PHYMD, and CQ_TXD.

Transmission & Reception

To transmit in UART mode, write the data byte into the UART register when the TX_RDY is set for transmitting the message. To receive in UART mode, read the data byte from the UART register when RX_RDY is set for reading the received message.

If a data byte is unread by the microcontroller, and the UART receives the next byte, an overrun interrupt (OR_ERR) is generated. A receiver error (RX_ERR) interrupt is generated when a frame error or parity error is detected during reception. A transmission error (TX_ERR) interrupt is generated when transmitted data is not reflected on the CQ channel.
