ISNS Pin Differentiator

The ISNS pin senses the resonant current through a Differentiator. The ISNS pin together with TSET, BLK pin resistors set the overload protection level. The typical threshold voltage of overload protection (VFBOLP) is 4.75V. The ISNS pin also sets the over current protection level (OCP1). The threshold value of OCP1 is either 3.5V or 4V depending on the TSET pin resistors and the variant being used. For the EVM, UCC256611 is being used. So, for this variant, OCP1 threshold value is 3.5V.

The peak resonant inductor current at full load

Equation 56. IR_PEAK=2IR=2×1.367=1.933A

Select a current sense capacitor first, since there are less high voltage capacitor choices than resistors:

Equation 57. CISNS=150pF

For this design, UCC256611 is being used. So, for this variant, OCP1 threshold value is 3.5V.

Equation 58. OCP1_Threshold=3.5V

Then calculate the required ISNS resistor value:

Equation 59. RISNS<OCP1_ThresholdCrIR_PEAKCISNS=3.5V30nF1.933A150pF=329Ω
Equation 60. RISNS=226Ω

Equation 60 is selected.

The peak resonant current at OCP1 level is calculated using:

Equation 61. IR_PEAK_OCP1=OCP1_Threshold×CrRISNS×CISNS=3.5×30nF226×150pF=3.097A
