Speaker current and voltage (IV) sensing

TAS2573 has integrated current and voltage sense measurement circuitry for real time monitoring of output transducer behavior. The VSNS_N and VSNS_P pins must be connected close to the output load and after any ferrite bead filter to get highest accuracy from the voltage sensor. If VSNS_N and VSNS_P are connected after the EMI filters, then a series resistor is required to protect the device. If no EMI filter is used, then VSNS_N and VSNS_P can be directly connected to OUT_P and OUT_N connections.

The current and voltage sense circuits are enabled by default and can be disabled by setting ISNS_PD and VSNS_PD register bits high. When powered down, the device returns null samples for the powered down block. For band-limited applications of current and voltage sense, the sensed signals can be low pass filtered using IVSENSE_LPF_ENABLE control bit. When enabled, the signals are filtered with a 4th order 6kHz filter at 48 ksps fs. The filter pole changes proportionately with the change in the FSYNC clock, for example, with 96ksps FSYNC, the filter pole becomes 12kHz.

Table 6-33 IV sense Low pass filter selection
IVSENSE_LPF_ENABLE Configuration
0 (default) Current & Voltage sense signal are not low pass filtered
1 Current & Voltage sense signal are low pass filtered by 6kHz filter

The full scale of sensed signal is programmable using VSNS_GAIN_SEL and ISNS_GAIN_SEL registers.

Table 6-34 Voltage Sense Gain selection
VSENSE_GAIN_SEL Configuration
00 Voltage sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 31.85Vpp
01 (default) Voltage sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 26Vpp
10 Voltage sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 20.45Vpp
11 Voltage sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 14.35Vpp
Table 6-35 Current Sense Gain selection
ISENSE_GAIN_SEL Configuration
00 Current sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 5.27 Apk
01 Current sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 2.9 Apk
10 (default) Current sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 2 Apk
11 Current sense digital full scale (FS) is equal to 1.45 Apk

The IV-sense signals are high pass filtered (HPF) and the Bi-Quad filter coefficients can be changed from the default 2Hz using the PPC3 Software (Section 6.4.1 ) which configures the IV_HPF_N0, IV_HPF_N1, IV_HPF_D1 coefficients. The same register bits are used to bypass the HPF if no filtering is desired. There are several registers configured for IV-sense performance based on system configurations. These IV sense performance tuning registers (IV_TUNING_xx) are configured using PPC3 Software.
