NTC-Based External FET Over-Temperature Protection

TPS12SxxF-Q1 features an external FET temperature monitoring amplifier and overtemperature protection. This temperature monitoring function is implemented with a differential amplifier with input pin as TMPx and internal output signal as TSNSx. The output of temperature amplifier acts as one of the inputs for integrated ADC. The device also features integrated comparator on TSNSx output internally to detect external main FET overtemperature fault. When voltage on internal TSNSx signal exceeds TSNS_TSD_SET_CHx threshold for more than TSNS_TSD_MASK_CHx masking time then main FET (GATEx) turns OFF, device goes into auto-retry or latch-off based on setting in LATCH_CHx bit and FLT/WAKE asserts low unless masked.

The overtemperature threshold can be set via SPI in the range from 45°C to 160°C in steps of 5°C using TSNS_TSD_SET_CHx bits.

RNTCx is the thermistor (in this case an NTC thermistor) resistance which varies with the temperature and RTMPx is a normal resistor used to linearize the thermistor behavior with respect to temperature, positioned as per Figure 7-14.
