Mismatched Illumination and Projection F/Number demonstates the uses of mismatched ƒ/#'s. Figure 5-5 uses a matched illumination ƒ/# of 2.4 with a projection ƒ/# of 2.4 and Figure 5-6 uses mismatched ƒ/#'s so that the illumination is f/3 and the projection is f/2.4. The resultant diffraction efficiency is increased as the larger projection aperture is able to collect more light.
