Evaluation
Once a suitable DLP display product has been selected, you are ready to start your project. The easiest way to experience DLP technology is by purchasing an EVM. Depending on your needs, a full range of EVMs are designed to help both beginners and experienced engineers move from evaluation to production quickly.
Step 1 of evaluation: select your hardware
Our DLPDLCR2000EVM with nHD resolution is the most affordable way to get started with DLP technology. For high resolution 4K UHD development there are multiple options, including the DLPDLCR660TEVM. Use the table below as a quick guide to select the right EVM for your application and visit our TI E2E™ support forum for more details. You can also find hardware reference designs here.
Resolution | Typical brightness (Lumens) | Micromirror array diagonal | Evaluation module | Included |
---|---|---|---|---|
4K UHD | Up to 8000 | 0.66" | DLPDLCR660TEVM | Electronics only |
4K UHD | Up to 5000 | 0.47" | DLPDLCR470TEVM | Electronics only |
4K UHD | Up to 1500 | 0.47" | DLPDLCR471TPEVM | Electronics + optics (500 Lumens) |
1080p | Up to 1500 | 0.47" | DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2 | Electronics + optics (600 Lumens) |
1080p | Up to 600 | 0.33" | DLPDLCR3310EVM | Electronics + optics (300 Lumens) |
1080p | Up to 300 | 0.23" | DLPDLCR230NPEVM | Electronics + optics (100 Lumens) |
HD/720p | Up to 400 | 0.3" | DLPDLCR3010EVM-G2 | Electronics + optics (100 Lumens) |
nHD | Up to 50 | 0.2" | DLPDLCR2000EVM | Electronics + optics (20 Lumens) |
Step 2 of evaluation: download & set up software
Software | Description |
---|---|
DLPDLC-GUI | The DLP® Display and Light Control evaluation module (EVM) includes a Windows®-based GUI tool used to control the EVM through SPI, I2C, or USB commands. |
DLP-PICO-FW-SEL | Firmware selector for various DLPC34xx controllers and configurations. |
Development
We are here to help you navigate the display and projection development process and accelerate your system design. We offer technical documentation, reference designs, training videos and more. In addition, our TI E2E™ support forums provide fast and reliable technical support from our engineers throughout every step of your design.
As you get started with development, your printed circuit board needs to incorporate the appropriate layout and electrical design requirements for your DLP display and projection sub-system. Failure to adhere to these guidelines can result in permanent damage to devices. Learn more:
Third-party development
To best meet your design needs and accelerate your time-to-market, DLP® Products works with a variety of third parties to help with everything from optical modules and hardware design to specialty software and other production services. The table below represents a portion of our third-party partner network, while a full list of third partner partners can be viewed here.
An optical module is a compact assembly that includes a digital micromirror device (DMD), illumination (LEDs), optics and associated mechanics. Drive electronics are required to supply power and video to the optical module. Drive electronics can either be custom built using TI Designs reference designs or sourced from independent 3rd party companies as an evaluation platform. Read the TI DLP® Pico™ System Design Optical Module Specifications application report to learn more.
