Since its creation by the Communications Act of 1934, the Federal Communications Commission has been charged with managing the use of the wireless spectrum so that it is as available and as usable as possible for all people within the US. FCC rule-making is done by providing updates to Title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations. These rules are considered binding on all operations within the US and its territories. The FCC Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) issues Knowledge Database (KDB) updates that are used to clarify implementation of the FCC regulations. While the KDB does not amend or replace the regulations, most TCBs will follow them to the letter. While Title 47 is very large, this article focuses only on the sections relevant to 60GHz radar and TLPR.
Upon completion of testing and certification, equipment manufacturers can voluntarily place the FCC logo on their device housing to show compliance with applicable regulations. In all cases, the FCC requires that the approved hardware contain the FCC ID in the form "FCC ID: XXXXXX". The same must be placed on the packaging and in the user guide for the equipment. The FCC does permit electronic labeling of devices.
