End equipments sold or important into Japan are subject to the Japan Radio Law (JRL). This law is implemented and enforced by several regulations and notices, namely: The Regulations for Enforcement of Radio Law, the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment (ORE), and the Ordinance Concerning Technical Regulations Certification of Specified Radio Equipment. The JRL and all accompanying regulations are further incorporated in the ARIB Standard T-73. The regulations and enforcement of the JRL are conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).
Equipment which successfully demonstrates compliance is issued an MIC registration number which must be displayed along with the Giteki symbol. If the device contains a telecommunications modem, then the device can also be given a Technical Regulations Conformity Certification Number that must also be shown with the MIC registration number. The Giteki symbol is typically be 3mm in diameter. The symbol can be reduced in size so long as the symbol and the registration numbers remain clearly visible with the naked eye. In cases where there is not enough space, the Giteki mark can be shown in an electronic label or in the user manual. In any case where the Giteki mark cannot be shown on the device housing, the Giteki must be added to the product packaging.
