Relay Binary Input Module

Description

Protection relays that are modular are designed to have multiple functional modules. The binary input/output module performs the protection relays’ logical (tripping, alarming, carrier send, etc.) functions. They are used for battery monitoring, status indication, diagnostics, fault indication and changing configuration. TI reference designs and ICs for binary IO modules:

  • Cover wide ranges of input voltage levels, have higher tolerances and better isolation properties, and can be adjusted for fixed or programmable thresholds
  • Have isolation architectures optimized for cost, power and scalability
  • Implement wetting current or auto burnishing pulse characteristics to overcome contamination of contacts that can occur in a harsh environment
