If the custom board design uses a USB Type-C® connector, the USBn_ID signal connection is not a requirement. The DRD mode switching is controlled by the USB Type-C companion device.
DRP (Dual Role Port) requires a controller, primarily to switch power based on the negotiated role. In a Device Mode only, USB2.0 only, USB Type-C implementations where the device is not powered by the USB Type-C connector, no USB Type-C controller is required.
Refer to the USB VBUS Design Guidelines section of the processor-specific data sheet for more information on USBn_VBUS input scaling recommendations.
