Circuit Breaker (ACB, MCCB, VCB) integrated circuits and reference designs


Circuit Breaker (ACB, MCCB, VCB) acts as a protection device that is designed to break a circuit open. It protects loads and equipment during fault conditions such as overload or short circuit particularly medium voltage applications (< 100 kV). They monitor phase, neutral and leakage currents as well as phase voltages. Fast response time is critical upon detection of faults. TI reference designs and semiconductors:

  • Improve the performance of AFE – covering wide dynamic range using high performance ∑-∆ ADCs with fast startup, optimizing for phase angle correction and response time for Rogowski Coils, etc
  • Showcase methods for isolating interface and adding state-of-the-art interfaces such as Ethernet and Wireless to make them IoT ready
  • Showcase architectures for powering from current transformer, line voltage and auxiliary power
