Design ConsiderationsAdaptive Lighting - OverviewAdaptive Lighting is a technique for adjusting the illumination of a specific field of view (FoV) to achieve a desired set of visual properties. The properties can include brightness, contrast enhancement, contrast reduction, glare mitigation, and color alterations of the FoV. Current conditions are monitored in order to generate the necessary qualities of illumination to accomplish the desired effect or reveal subtle details. The diagram illustrates how the camera captures the image from the FoV. A camera vision toolkit (e.g. OpenCV) evaluates the image as seen by the camera, and computes the illumination control to achieve the desired effect. The program labeled DLP Pattern Generator creates the illumination pattern required to produce the desired illumination. This pattern is projected to the FoV from the Digital Micro-mirror Device (DMD) with RGB/Infrared lighting. The new displayed image is again captured by the camera and its likeness to the desired image is compared. The cycle continues until the displayed image and the expected image converge. The diagram shows a DLP® chipset fo Adaptive Lighting applications, which includes the DMD, and a DMD Controller chip, plus a DMD Analog Control chip (depending on the specific DLP® chipset). Various DLP® chipsets are available, with different DMD sizes, resolutions, and other specifications. The best choice for a DLP chipset will depend on the resolution of the camera system and brightness of the FoV.
