Test Setup

When debugging Ethernet applications, one crucial aspect is to set up the test flawlessly. Always verify the link partner for the device under debug is configured properly. The following lists important checks to complete when setting up the test:

  • Verify the Ethernet cable is working.
  • Verify the DHCP server is running on the other end when running lwIP applications and requiring automatic IP assignment.
  • Verify a firewall is not blocking packets sent by the DUT if unable to see packets on the packet sniffing tools.
  • Verify the link status of the partner is UP.
  • Verify the capabilities of the link partner are known and configured properly. For example, if automatic negotiation is not supported, the PHY on the AM261x must not be set to automatic negotiate. In such cases, the settings for speed, duplexity, and interface can be forced using the SYSCFG of the application.
