Pin muxing of MAC to the PHY interface is different for custom boards. Issues typically occur due to incorrect pin MUX settings. So, pin muxing must be done correctly for MDIO and any RGMII, MII, and RMII. The pin muxing can be done in the CPSW section of SYSCFG. The MDIO pins are in the MDIO section. The MAC to PHY interface pins are in the IO Set section. In addition to the pin MUX settings, the MAC to the PHY interface type must also be chosen, since pin muxing ultimately depends on this factor.
Figure 4-7 SYSCFG Custom Pin MUXThe board_config.c file must be developed correctly. This file sets up the MAC port. Some board designs use an IO expander to route MDIO and data signals from MAC to the PHY. The routing logic must be handled correctly in this file.
The steps for correctly developing the board_config.c file is explained in the XREF – Custom Board Enablement in SYSCFG section of the document.
