Using GEL Scripts in CCS

CCS has GEL scripts for retrieving specific CPSW related information such as PHY register dumps, CPSW statistics, ALE table dumps, and so forth. To use a GEL script in CCS, make sure your CCS debug session is running and the Ethernet application is loaded and running on the CPU. To get a GEL script dump, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Verify the CPU is in the HALTED state.
  2. Navigate to Scripts in CCS.

  3. Select the GEL script to run.

Note: The GEL output section shows the result of the GEL script. As seen in the Figure 4-10 example, the screen shot shows the ALE table dump.

Similarly, GEL scripts can be used to retrieve a dump of the PHY registers, and the CPSW statistics. This eases the debug by providing crucial register level information which can be very useful.

Figure 4-11 shows the PHY register dump for the TI DP83869 PHY connected to the AM261x-LP (verify that the PHY address is entered correctly and that the CPSW variant is chosen as CPSW3G).
