The BQ41Z90 uses an integrated temperature sensor local to the LDOs to determine if the device is overheating. If the internal temperature sensor reaches tSD_ALERT+, then the MCU is placed in RESET and disables REG135 although REG18 and the AFE remain enabled. If the temperature then falls and reaches tSD_ALERT-, the device enables the REG135 and allows the MCU powerup sequence to begin.

However, if the temperature continues to rise and the internal temperature sensor reaches tSD+, then the device is placed in RESET with both REG135 and REG18 disabled. When the internal device temperature falls below tSD–, then the REG18 is allowed to power up, but the device power-up sequence is not allowed to begin until the temperature falls below tSD_ALERT–.
